Back in the days when dinosaurs still roamed this blue orb, sketches at conventions were a whole different thing. Artists didn’t charge. Yes, can you believe there was ever such a time. It was back then that almost all the comic writers I knew would have sketch books where they would ask artist friends to do a drawing. Seeing what other artists had done before, it became wonderfully competitive with artists doing amazing stuff. I was lucky enough to have a sketchbook at that time and so I got some pretty great art myself. I never filled the book as Tony Harris had it for like 20 or so years (I am not exaggerating) and by the time I got it back, artists were charging for their sketches (as they should) so that ship had definitely sailed.
