Steve Yeowell does Zenith

Steve Yeowell does Zenith

I’ve been lucky enough to work with Steve Yeowell a few times, although these was many years back now. He was the artist on my first published American work “67 Seconds” (although it was certainly not my first American assignment as I’ll explain here on my website soon for anyone who cares to read my inane ramblings). And yes, Epic Comics, an offshoot of Marvel at the time, was an absolutle shitshow after Archie Goodwin left and went over to DC, so it's no surprise they misspelled Steve's name on the cover.

I had fallen in love with Steve’s beautiful artistry enjoying “Zenith” the wonderful series he and Grant Morrison did for 2000AD, as well as The “New Adventures of Adolph Hitler” so it was a thrill to finally work for him myself. Steve did some issues of Starman too, including saving everyone’s butts on a section of a Starman Annual when the original artist flaked at the last minute.

We also did a Starman Christmas issue that people still talk about favorably.

Oh, and we also did the first eight pages of what would have been a graphic novel entitled “Mystery Tour” that was intended for serialization in Revolver Magazine from Fleetway Publications had the periodical survived more than its first 7 issues. Anyway, later Steve would go on to do “Sebastian O” again with Grant (which I’m thrilled to hear they’ll be doing more of soon apparently). Oh, and if memory serves me correctly an arc or two of “The Invisibles”. Steve seems to primarily work in the UK market now, but I’d recommend you check out any and all of Steve’s work you can find. I always eagerly await anything new that he does.

Boy, I’m not sure there necessitated a need to give you the potted history of Steve Yeowell’s comic career, but as I just said I’m inane and I ramble. Anyway, Steve did a lovely sketch of Zenith for me back in the day. Enjoy.

Steve Rude does The Guardian

I used to be pretty good pals with Steve Rude back in the early 90s when we both lived in L.A. That’s why it made perfect sense that he’d be the first artist to do something in my sketchbook. I asked for The Guardian...

Back in the days when dinosaurs still roamed this blue orb, sketches at conventions were a whole different thing. Artists didn’t charge. Yes, can you believe there was ever such a time. It was back then that almost all...
