So exciting first news for this website, namely the fact that the Los Monstruos Vol One trade paperback from Dark Horse is out. I love this series and I am incredibly proud of the work done by myself and my brilliant partner in things monstrous, Jesus Mereno.
For anyone unfamiliar with the series, it’s set in a city unlike any other, comprised solely of 1900s-1950s movie monsters as well as monstrous creatures of folklore. It’s very much a working, day-to-day city… except for all its inhabitants being monsters.
The main hero of this first arc is Perry Cutter, a P.I. who just happens to also be a werewolf. The case he undertakes begins as a simple missing person but in true private detective fashion soon becomes something much more complicated and dangerous. In the course of the case, he must deal with a vampire crime gang, mob-boss casino owner Ramses Ra and his band of Egyptian mummy gangsters, as well as corrupt cops and the seeming betrayal of his best-friend and fellow ex-cop man-monster Clyde. The series is a crime story and a monster yarn all in one. And combined with the dangers, Perry is also trying to go on a first-date with a vampire waitress named Rosie who works at his local diner, so we can only hope he gets a break from all the action.
It’s a fun exciting read and as I say, a work I’m very proud of.
You can get it at your local comic store as well here…
