‘PATRA
‘Patra is a fantastic series I’m doing with Scott Kolins, an artist with lengthy and notable runs on DC’s The Flash and Marvel’s The Avengers, as well as many other series.
However, with ‘Patra, Scott and I are taking a step away from superheroics and doing a horror comic, although one with as much action and fun in it as there is mystery and menace.
‘Patra is a young girl, lost, alone and unsure if she’s alive or a ghost walking the Earth. All she knows is that when danger nears, she mysteriously, magically gets a mask and knife that appear out of nowhere. Although she’s frightened by this at first, she soon realizes there are far worst things to be frightened of. She discovers that a deranged “slasher” villain killer, Jeremy Jones, (akin to Michael Myers in the Halloween horror movies) is terrorizing a town nearby and it is ‘Patra’s destiny to find and defeat him. The only problem being she’s a little girl who has no idea how she can possibly accomplish such a feat. However, when she learns that a young girl about her age is also in danger from Jeremy she undertakes this dangerous task anyway. Along the way she discovers she has skills and talents she had no idea she possessed, although the Jeremy Jones proves to be dangerous, deadly evil, and more mysteriously he seems linked to her and her mask and knife in some way.
Oh, and the ending with their final confrontation is quite a thing.
This is the first arc of ‘Patra’s adventures as she sets out on her destiny to defeat a series of “slasher” maniacs all based on the horror films of the 70s and 80s. And all the while Patra must unravel the truth about her own existence and why it’s interwoven with this series of psychos.
The art by Scott is top-notch, adopting a finer, more detailed style than prior as well as coloring the book in a fantastic palette bringing light and life to all aspects of this story.
